Here a comment to it:
After the fall of USSR the West, mainly USA, had a chance to make a better world.
The nations of former USSR where open for a new world order under the guidance of democracies for prosperity and peace.
But the human nature in the face of the US administration has demonstrated once again, that even the best historical opportunities to crate a peaceful, prospering and just world are being undermined by simple everlasting human weaknesses as described over and over in world literature – greed, hunger for power, simple eval in all it’s expression.
Now the opportunity the humanity had was passed by, and we can only look backward and observe in the binnacles how the hopes for billions are becoming more distant after every new episode in the new cold war.
I agree with jstrong365’s comment (below), that it is only the US administration to blame for.
But it is deeper. Apparently the quality of the political system in the US is not matching up with the exceptional strong geopolitical position it acquired by virtue of geography and historical events.
Instead of becoming a real paternalistic leader for the good of the whole world, it became to a bandit after it’s opponent lost for a historically short period the orientation, became vulnerable to simple rubbery, battery and assault.
It was stripped of dignity and placed in the corner of the world events as a puppet to be laughed at. But it didn’t take long for the Russian civilization to correct it’s past mistakes, to deal with weaknesses, and to return back in fulminate moves in order to regain the initiative an recover lost terrain.
The US administration seems not to demonstrate the ability to proper analyse the events and assumes to be able to deal with Russia’s justified ambitions by orchestrating a baseless hysteria in mass media, breaking international law, supporting radicals on various theaters of war.
It won’t help, though. Russia will create an alternative to US’s neo-imperialism. The US administration has to blame it self for the failure to lead the way in to the new era of the human kind.
Now the Pax-Americaner will become to a failed historic figure who tried to win the hearts of the nations, but instead has seeded war and destruction.
By-by imperial America, welcome to the league of failed human projects along with Rome, London, Berlin, USSR …

The “Global Order” is disintegrating due to US hubris. The expansion of NATO to the borders of the old Soviet Union. Proclaiming the Axis of Evil. A war of aggression in Iraq. An active campaign of destabilization against the pro-Kremlin government in Ukraine. America’s cold warriors did not declare victory and go home. They took the opportunity to expand their sphere of influence.
We are seeing the consequences. Iran and North Korea responded by embarking on a drive for nuclear weapons rather than face invasion.by the US. Putin took Crimea to protect Russia’s naval base in Sevastopol. Reminds me of Reagan’s threats to occupy the Panama Canal.
Which brings us to Syria and Obama’s red line fiasco. In Iraq Bush had the coalition of the willing. America’s performance in that adventure stripped our allies of their desire for regime change and nation building. When Cameron lost the vote to go to war, Obama went to congress for authorization. Congress ran for the hills. Mitch McConnell said he did not want to tie a future President’s hands with a new AUMF. All Obama had for legitimate action relied on an obscure UN doctrine called Responsibility to Protect. Americans hate the UN and any of its proclamations. Without the backing of Congress or the American people, he chose diplomacy.
The CIA started backing the “moderates”. In the real world, we call them the Muslim Brotherhood. The AKP in Turkey is the most successful version of political Islam. But Saudi Arabia and Egypt hate political Islam. They along with Qatar backed the Jihadists. At one point, the CIA panicked. The program was too successful and the Salafists were poised to take control.
Raqqa is only a three hour drive from Russia. Putin intervened to prevent the establishment of a terrorist threat to his south. A reasonable position by any head of state. Certainly a greater threat than Iraq was to the US.
The US could have prevented this. All it would take is 200,000 troops, 4 Trillion dollars and an occupation that would take at least 10 years. The US asked Egypt for 40,000 troops to provide security. They refused. Egypt can’t even deal with challenges in the Sinai or on the Libyan border.
Now we have a NATO ally saying they will bury Americans along with their flag. Edrogan held a new conference highlighting a 9 year old girl. He told her martyrdom in defense of Islam was the highest calling.
We don’t have any friends in the region. Just supplicants who want us to do their dirty work.
