Russia is on God’s side – Pat Buchanan

Analyzing Vladimir Putin’s speech on the day when Russia reunited with Crimea, Pat Buchanan made a conclusion that “Russia is on God’s side. The West is Gomorrah.” Pat Buchanan, Former Assistant to the President for Communications gave his assessment of the Putin’s actions. According to him, Russia is “planting Russia’s flag firmly on the side of traditional Christianity”, standing firmly in its position against reproductive choice and LGBT rights. This, according to Buchanan is the evidence that God is on Putin’s side in his showdown with the West.

In his column on April 4 Buchanan named Putin as the global leader against “a hedonistic secular and social revolution coming out of the West”.

Previously, the West along with Western leaders and media compared Putin’s actions on Crimean issue to Hitler and Austrian Anschluss. Buchanan thinks that Vladimir Putin knows exactly what he is doing.

As Buchanan puts it, “In the culture war for the future of mankind, Putin is planting Russia’s flag firmly on the side of traditional Christianity.” He claims that Putin’s speeches go along with the speeches of John Paul II regarding the “culture of death.”

The West firm position on easy divorce, pornography, homosexuality, euthanasia etc go against the fundamental Christian values, Buchanan thinks.

According to Allan Carlson, founder of World Congress of Families (WCF), “While the other super-powers march to a pagan world-view. Russia is defending Christian values. During the Soviet era, Western communists flocked to Moscow. This year, World Congress of Families VII will be held in Moscow, Sept. 10-12.”

From the West point of view, Russia is standing against the LGBT community, effectively imposing bans between same-sex marriages, Pat Buchanan says that Putin is “trying to re-establish” his country’s “moral compass.”

In December, he named Putin social conservatism leader. Recently he has taken Putin’s side in the reunification of Crimea, standing strongly ideologically pro-Russian in his views.
