The NATO military infrastructure is approaching the Russian border, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press-conference in Warsaw summarizing the results of the talks with Foreign Ministers of Poland and Germany Radoslaw Sikorski and Guido Westerwelle.
Lavrov said that NATO’s advance to the east is taking place in defiance of the alliance’s former obligations.
He stressed that the aim of Russia and its ally Belarus is defence of their borders. In this connection Lavrov said that the issue of possible setting up a Russian air base on Belarusian territory has nothing to do with missile defence.
Answering journalists’ questions Lavrov assured them that Moscow is not planning to sell S-300 missile defence systems to Syria. As for the previous contracts, Russia is completing deliveries of defensive weapons to Damascus.

Western partners should not worry about the Russian military base in Belarus, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Russian reporters.
“I see no reasons for such concerns,” he said.
Russia and Belarus are the Union State and a common space, including, from the military point of view, Lavrov emphasized.

During the meeting Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov, Guido Westerwelle and Radoslaw Sikorski discussed the progress in implementing the agreements reached at the previous meetings in Kaliningrad in May 2011 and Berlin in March 2012.
