The European parliament and the Council of Europe have agreed on capping bankers’ bonuses.

From now on bankers’ bonuses should not exceed the amount of their annual salaries.

Bonus can be two times as high as the annual salary but this requires permission of at least half of the shareholders of a given bank, the press release of the European parliament read.

These proposals are to be approved by the EU countries at a plenary session of the European parliament in April.
