But he said new sanctions &#8220;are not in \nour interest.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\n a sweeping diplomatic speech Tuesday after hosting the G-7 summit , \nMacron sketched out a role for France as a &#8220;balancing power&#8221; &#8211; between \nRussia and its rivals, between the U.S. and Iran, between rich and poor \ncountries.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox23.com\/news\/world\/decrying-crisis-frances-macron-urges-new-economic-order\/979726951#continue-below\">Content Continues Below<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Pushing Russia from \nEurope is a profound strategic error,&#8221; Macron said. Europe&#8217;s &#8220;weaknesses\n and mistakes&#8221; have helped lead Russia to boost its alliance with China \nand revive its influence in Syria, Libya and around Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not in our \ninterest to be weak and guilty, to forget all our disagreements and to \nembrace each other again,&#8221; he said, but insisted: &#8220;The European \ncontinent will never be stable, will never be in security, if we don&#8217;t \npacify and clarify our relations with Russia.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macron and Russian \nPresident Vladimir Putin met last week and vowed to give a new boost to \npeace talks with Ukraine. But the two disagreed on other issues, \nincluding Syria and the Russian crackdown on opposition protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macron is trying to revive France&#8217;s global clout on multiple fronts, with mixed success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After inviting the \nIranian foreign minister as a surprise guest to the Group of Seven \nsummit in France, Macron said Tuesday that his risky diplomatic maneuver\n helped create &#8220;the possible conditions of a useful meeting.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macron acknowledged \nthat his efforts to bring Iran and the U.S. together are &#8220;fragile&#8221; but \nsays he still sees a &#8220;possible path&#8221; to rapprochement after decades of \nconflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He expressed hope at \nthe G-7 on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President\n Hassan Rouhani could meet within weeks. Trump said there was a &#8220;really \ngood chance&#8221; that could happen &#8211; but Rouhani said Tuesday that the U.S. \npresident must first lift sanctions imposed on Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazil, meanwhile, \nrejected offers of international aid championed by Macron at the G-7 to \nfight Amazon wildfires. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro accused \nFrance and other rich countries of treating the region like a &#8220;colony.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macron called that \ninterpretation a &#8220;mistake.&#8221; He said the money is aimed at countries in \nthe region and is a sign of friendship &#8211; not &#8220;aggression.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the money  isn&#8217;t just aimed at Brazil but at nine countries in the Amazon region,  including Colombia and Bolivia.
