{"id":5708,"date":"2014-12-09T12:36:05","date_gmt":"2014-12-09T19:36:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myfutureamerica.org\/?p=5708"},"modified":"2014-12-09T12:36:47","modified_gmt":"2014-12-09T19:36:47","slug":"germans-cdu-follows-merkel-in-radicalization-of-its-foreign-policy-germany-is-abondoning-its-role-as-peaceful-leader-in-eu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myfutureamerica.org\/?p=5708","title":{"rendered":"Germans CDU follows Merkel in radicalization of its foreign policy &#8211; Germany is abondoning its role as peaceful leader in EU."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"news-kunye\">\n<h3>Germany&#8217;s Merkel re-elected as CDU party leader<\/h3>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li class=\"last\"><\/li>\n<div class=\"kunye\">09 December 2014 17:58 (Last updated 09 December 2014 18:11)<\/div>\n<div class=\"news-spot\">Christian Democrats unanimously elect Merkel as chairwoman for the eighth time<\/div>\n<div class=\"clearfix\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"news-maincontent\">\n<div class=\"rt-buttons\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>COLOGNE\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s largest political party, the Christian Democratic Union, has re-elected Chancellor Angela Merkel as its chairwoman with a strong support by the delegates.<\/p>\n<p>A total of\u00a0884 of 919 delegates &#8211; 96.7 percent of the vote &#8211;\u00a0elected Merkel on Tuesday as their leader for the eight time\u00a0at the 27th Congress of the CDU party in Cologne, Germany&#8217;s fourth-largest city.\u00a0Five\u00a0votes were declared invalid.<\/p>\n<p>It was the second-best result of the 60-year-old conservative politician, who has\u00a0headed the party since 2,000.<\/p>\n<p>Her best-ever result was in 2012, when she earned support of 97.9 percent of party\u00a0delegates.<\/p>\n<p>The vote has further strengthened Merkel\u2019s position in her party.<\/p>\n<p>Only two historical political figures, former chancellors Helmut Kohl and Konrad Adenauer, earned better results in the history of the Christian Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; &#8216;Significant success&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor Merkel, who has led\u00a0the country since 2005, has recently enjoyed popularity ratings close to 70 percent, according to a recent poll by public broadcaster ARD.<\/p>\n<p>Public support for Merkel is well above the support for her party CDU.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 56 percent of Germans have expressed support for Merkel\u2019s fourth term as Chancellor in the next elections scheduled for 2017, in a poll by the Emnid institute.<\/p>\n<p>Support for Merkel\u2019s conservative CDU\/CSU bloc\u00a0is 35 percent, according to a poll published by the Bild newspaper last week.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech at the party congress on Tuesday, Merkel emphasized that her coalition government has achieved significant success in the economy in recent years, despite the negative effects of the finance crisis in Europe<\/p>\n<p>Merkel said unemployment had decreased to a record low in 2014\u00a0and the government had adopted budget with no new debts.<\/p>\n<p>She expressed hope that Europe would overcome the crisis but also underlined that EU member states had to step up reform efforts and &#8220;stick to the rules&#8221; on budgets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Renewed criticism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Merkel said: &#8220;We shouldn\u2019t be depressed. I am totally convinced that we have all the chances to overcome this crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The European debt crisis was, in its essence,\u00a0a crisis of confidence and, in order to win confidence again, we should all comply with the rules,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Merkel defended her government\u2019s foreign policy in Ukraine and renewed her criticism of Russia over\u00a0the annexation of Crimea.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What has happened in Ukraine has put into question the peace order in Europe,&#8221;\u00a0she said adding that\u00a0Russia had\u00a0violated international law.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As I have said in the beginning of this crisis, there is no military solution to this conflict.\u00a0 We should undertake every diplomatic effort for a political solution,&#8221;\u00a0she added.<\/p>\n<p>Vitali Klitschko, a prominent Ukrainian politician and the current mayor of Kiev, was among the foreign guests at the congress of Christian Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>CDU\u2019s party congress will continue until Thursday with discussions on the economy and\u00a0domestic and international matters.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"%20www.aa.com.tr\/en \" target=\"_blank\">Source<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Germany&#8217;s Merkel re-elected as CDU party leader 09 December 2014 17:58 (Last updated 09 December 2014 18:11) Christian Democrats unanimously elect Merkel as chairwoman for the eighth time COLOGNE\u00a0 Germany\u2019s largest political party, the Christian Democratic Union, has re-elected Chancellor Angela Merkel as its chairwoman with a strong support by the delegates.
