MOSCOW, December 2 (Sputnik) \u2013 The consequences of\u00a0scrapping the South Stream gas project<\/a> could be disastrous for\u00a0some European states, the marketing director of\u00a0Czech gas company Vemex told Sputnik Tuesday.”Cancellation of\u00a0the [South Stream] project spells a disaster for\u00a0the Baltic States, namely Bulgaria and Serbia, as\u00a0well as\u00a0for Hungary and Austria,” Hugo Kyselka said.<\/p>\n

“I mean, first of\u00a0all, the actions of\u00a0the Bulgarian government and its European “associates”, who have deliberately “sunk” the [South Stream] project. They have all made a huge blunder and caused real damage to\u00a0the European energy security,” he added.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Kyselka, it is “extremely risky to\u00a0rely on\u00a0raw material resources located thousands of\u00a0kilometers away from\u00a0the consumer without\u00a0considering the political situation in\u00a0those countries.”The Vemex marketing director also stressed that “Brussels has proved it is not interested in\u00a0the needs of\u00a0ordinary people, but\u00a0only in\u00a0the political aims” and “has started a very risky game with\u00a0the voters’ trust.”<\/p>\n

Kyselka noted that “Russia and Turkey have undoubtedly won in\u00a0the game over\u00a0the South Stream, while the European Union has made a wrong move and lost the game completely.”<\/p>\n

Earlier on\u00a0Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said following\u00a0a meeting with\u00a0his Turkish counterpart that Russia would soon increase gas deliveries to\u00a0Turkey by\u00a0three billion cubic meters a year through\u00a0the Blue Stream<\/a>, an already operational pipeline running across\u00a0the Black sea. The Russian leader also announced that Russia was no longer willing to\u00a0continue implementing the South Stream project in\u00a0light of\u00a0the European Commission’s “non-constructive” stance on\u00a0the matter.In 2012 Russian energy giant Gazprom<\/a> announced the construction of\u00a0a South Stream pipeline across\u00a0the Black Sea to\u00a0reduce the chances of\u00a0Russian gas being delivered to\u00a0central and southern Europe through\u00a0Ukraine being interrupted. The pipeline was expected to\u00a0be fully operational by\u00a02018.<\/p>\n

The European Commission has, however, taken a critical stance on\u00a0the project, claiming that it is illegal to\u00a0own a pipeline and produce the natural gas that flows through\u00a0it at\u00a0the same time.<\/p>\n

Moscow has insisted that the construction of\u00a0the pipeline does not contradict the regulations.<\/p>\n
