Hillary Clinton has urged to reform the US electoral system. She slammed a recent ruling by the US Supreme Court that she said are reviving \u201cold demons of discrimination.\u201d\u00a0Her speech on Monday in San Francisco was the first one in a series of speeches yet to follow about the challenges the America is facing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Former US Secretary of State and potential 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton spoke before about 1,000 members of the American Bar Association.<\/p>\n

Her 45-minute speech was the first in a series of speeches she is going to deliver later about \u201cthe challenges undermining Americans\u2019 faith in government\u201d, the Washington Post notes.<\/p>\n

Clinton described the court\u2019s June decision that allows 15 states, particularly southern states, not to get approval from the US Department of Justice in case they amend their electoral laws as \u201can assault on voting rights\u201d.<\/p>\n

Texas has already made use of the decision and introduced a tough identification law which, as analysts say, affects Hispanic and black residents. Florida\u2019s Governor Rick Scott has announced the state\u2019s voting rolls will soon be reviewed in order to single out and remove non-US citizens from them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do \u2014 let\u2019s admit it \u2014 have a long history of shutting people out: African Americans, women, gays and lesbians, people with disabilities,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd throughout our history, we have found too many ways to divide and exclude people from their ownership of the law and protection from the law,\u201d Clinton said as cited by media.<\/p>\n

According to Clinton, the ruling will only renew discrimination at polls and block millions of Americans from fully participating in our democracy.<\/p>\n

Clinton, who has not yet announced her political plans for the 2016 presidential race, said in her upcoming speeches she would speak on national security issues and US global leadership.<\/p>\n
