Nikonov Vyacheslav Alekseevich, Executive Director of the Russian World Fund and President of the Politics Fund, has given an exclusive interview to the Voice of Russia. He called the situation unprecedented and predicted the Guantanamo list appearance as a response to Magnitsky list.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Naturally, Russia’s response to the Magnitsky list will be adequate and balanced. The very working up of such lists is unprecedented for Russian-American relations. Such things did not happen even during the Cold War. This is Pandora’s Box, from which problems in bilateral relations will constantly break free. That is why there will be an answer. Naturally, I believe, the Russian side will wait for the decision of the American side. And it seems to me that the number of names on our list will equal the American Magnitsky list. I think it will be called the Guantanamo list. Inclusion in this list means that those persons will not be granted entry visas to the territory of the Russian Federation and the arrest of these persons\u2019 assets existing in the territory of the Russian Federation. These measures are absolutely symmetrical.<\/p>\n

In your opinion, is it possible for the American side to rethink this decision?<\/em><\/p>\n

I find it hard to imagine that the US Congress could change its mind and cancel the Magnitsky list. It would be a real revolution in US legislation. Nothing like this has ever happened.<\/p>\n

Is the list complete now?<\/em><\/p>\n

We can’t say. I don’t know about 104 names. I am sure that our list will be exactly the same as the American one. But there will be a threat that it could expand constantly.<\/p>\n

That is, this will have a bad influence on our relationship, won\u2019t it?<\/em><\/p>\n

It will remain an irritating factor in Russian-American relations. All the more so, since there is persisting temptation to lengthen this list.<\/p>\n
