MOSCOW, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) — Russia has invited U.S. President Barack Obama to attend the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Russia’s term for World War II, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Monday.

“All countries participated in the anti-Hitler coalition are invited. It is clear which these countries are,” Ushakov told reporters.

“Of course, (Obama) was invited,” TASS news agency quoted him as saying, who added that several countries had given immediate responses, while others were pondering.

“But this is all right, because there is much time before festivities,” he said.

Still, Ushakov added that Moscow and Washington have not been planning direct talks between the two presidents in the first half of 2015.

The Democratic Peoples’ Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s top leader Kim Jong Un may also attend the celebrations in Moscow on May 9, 2015, he said.

“First signals are given from Pyongyang that the DPRK leader plans to come to Moscow and attend celebrations,” he said.

South Korean President Park Geun Hye has also been invited, the official said.

Russia celebrates the Victory Day on May 9 every year to mark the victory in 1945 over Nazi Germany in the World War II.
