Russia’s main producer of anti-aircraft systems, the Almaz-Antei Concern, will present quite a number of new anti-aircraft systems at the International Aviation and Space Salon 2013 in Zhukovsky near Moscow, which will be supplied to the Russian air forces in the near future. There are plans to renovate the whole line of Russia’s anti-aircraft systems – from short range to long-range air-defence missile systems.

The Russian S-350E Vityaz mid-range guided missile system will be in the focus of attention at the 2013 MAKS Air Show. Russia is planning to replace the outdated S-300 air defence systems and some of the Buk anti-aircraft missile systems with its mid-range systems. In June the new system was shown to President Putin during his visit to the Obukhovsky Plant in St. Petersburg.

The S-350E air-defence missile system is meant for the protection of villages, industrial enterprises, and important military facilities from possible air attacks. The brand development of the Russian Almaz-Antei Concern is a vertical launch system, which is equipped with a multi-functional 360 degree radar, which enables it to operatively repulse possible attacks from all directions. Thus, as compared with its foreign analogs, including the US Patriot missile long-range air-defence system, it has more advantages. Besides, it is possible to place 12, not four, missiles on the Vityaz air defence system.

The Vityaz will make it possible to learn more about the general architecture of new-generation air defence systems. As is known, similar technical solutions are being used in the development of the Morfei short-range air defence system, which will use small-size 9M100 missiles. Thanks to that, there will be more than 30 missiles and one combat vehicle in its battle reserve. The Morfei air defence systems are meant for the protection of other air defence systems from air attacks, including attacks with the use of cruise missiles and drones, and a large battle reserve will enable a battery of the Morfei air-defence systems to organize effective defence even in case of a massive strike.

The serial S-400 and Antei-2500 missiles, and also various modifications of the Tor missile systems will also be shown at the International Aviation and Space Salon 2013 in Russia. Clients – be that Russia’s Defence Ministry or its foreign partner – will be able to choose an air defence system to their liking – the one they will be able to pay for. Russia’s possession of such air defence systems will mean that it will be able to form overlapping anti-aircraft zones, to organize effective defence with due regard for the concrete region, and to ensure multilayer defence of important regions. Since air-attack systems are becoming more and more sophisticated with every passing day, the need for the use of air-defence systems will grow.
