A Russian human rights ombudsman has called the ongoing hunger strike at the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison, which has become a symbol of Bush-era atrocities, another reason for closing this “vile institution.”

“The Guantanamo hunger strike is as yet another reason to shut down this vile institution that has a record of human rights violations,” Konstantin Dolgov of the Russian Foreign Ministry has tweeted.

The hunger strike has entered its second month, forcing defense attorneys for protesting inmates to file a complaint with Pentagon chief Chuck Hagel.
